Architectural Manifesto

Greetings! I’m Yuji Gonzales Baba. Alumni of Ann Arbor Montessori in Bf Home Paranaque. I was in a band in my high school years having a gig on Friday and Saturday nights in Las Pinas playing different type of instruments like guitar, drums, cajon, percussion etc. A varsity player of table tennis for 4 years. At my last year of high school I took my exams on La Salle, UST and Benilde. I passed all of the exams that I took Fine Arts and Engineering in La Salle and UST, Architecture in Benilde. The reason why I took Architecture in Benilde is because of my family wants me to take something that has a professional license not breaking our family’s lineage of nurses and doctors. I had a hard time on my first 2 years taking up Architecture because I really don’t have a background on it. I flunked Architectural design 1 because of that so I took it again and I had to look for an inspiration, a building that will suit the aesthetics that I wanted. Searching Google I saw London City Hall and I took that as an inspiration on my second take of arcdes1 not knowing who designed the structure. I joined an architectural group in school who does scale models for students at my second year in college. My reason behind joining that group is that so I can have experience making models and visuals because those were my weaknesses second would be the perks that there would be people who can help me with my design and lastly the pay that I get. Now I’m in Arcdes 7, my mentor Ar. Karlo Agasa told me the way I design my building is like Ar. Norman Foster. Looking back on my design 1 the structure, my inspiration is Ar. Norman Foster and his design the London City Hall. Just like what my mentor said I’m trying to be a trendsetter I wanted something alienated. Now I’m travelling around looking at modern architecture gives me this sublime feeling, that feeling you can’t explain or put into words. Now I want to do something like that or more than that. That People will look upon on my design, an inspiration to them just like what I am now to Norman Foster.

Quad trip!

My first stop was La salle but I couldn't get in because of some problems.
DLSU main is Neo classical inspired architecture.
The color of the exterior is white so it is soothing in the eyes.

My second stop was the National museum.

I didn't know the musuem was just near Intramuros even though the last trip was just there(Luneta trip)

Corinthean Column was used in this structure.

The color was pale yellow I don't know why but I think they used pale yellow so the they won't paint again and again when there's a stain.

The entrance was free but taking pictures inside is prohibited so I just moved on and traveled to my next stop.

the next stop was manila city hall

It was scorching hot while I was walking to Manila City Hall.
I needed to change clothes because I was so wet.

It was just like the National Musuem they used Corinthean colums the pale yellow color.
The difference is that the Manila city hall doesn't have pediment while National musuem doesn't have arches.

Last stop was Post Office I felt that I'm in greece because of the columns used (Ionic). I was just amazed I can't talk straight that time I was stuttering.

I was just curious about the spelling of the building there it was "BVILDING". I dont know if im color blind if its dirty white or the color was flesh.

Perfume: The story of a Murderer

Plot
An obsessive French perfumer with a highly developed olfactory sense and an all-consuming drive to capture the essence of love eventually resorts to murder in his unrepentant quest to find the key ingredient for his recipe in director Tom Tykwer's adaptation of author Patrick Suskind's best-selling 1985 novel. Born in a fetid fish market and raised in a dilapidated orphanage, Jean-Baptiste Grenouille (Ben Whishaw) toiled his childhood away in a rank tannery run by the thuggish Grimal (Sam Douglas). Subsequently obsessed by smell, Grenouille's keen olfactory sense becomes so finely tuned that it eventually overpowers such human qualities as love and compassion. Though he has indeed discovered the unmistakable scent of a woman, Grenouille finds it impossible to connect with the fairer sex on any sort of meaningful level. Roaming the streets of Paris late one night, Grenouille catches the scent of a young girl selling plums and impulsively strangles her, later sniffing her nude corpse in a twisted attempt to preserve the distinctive scent in his memory. After persuading legendary perfumer Giuseppe Baldini (Dustin Hoffman) to take him on as an apprentice, Grenouille travels to the town of Grasse in Southern France in order to learn the art of enfleurage at a firm run by the highly respected Mme. Arnulfi (Corinna Harfouch). It is there that Grenouille becomes dangerously drawn to the vestal aroma of the young and beautiful Laura (Rachel Hurd-Wood), the daughter of widower merchant Antione Richis (Alan Rickman). Soon driven to madness by such a pure scent, the spellbound Grenouille continues to claim the lives of the numerous young girls in a tragic attempt to bottle the impossibly elusive smell of virginal womanhood. - "Jason Buchanan, Rovi"

Moving to the structures I've seen in the movie I saw a facade of a gothic style somewhere in the movie and there is a scene that is Rococo inspired architecture where the twins was kidnapped and killed and the Aristocrats/Nobles wear wigs.

The big maze

Wig

There is a industrial influence too because there's a viaduct and there are houses on it. The houses are the same, compressed and apartment like structures.

In my opinion the movie was great. I was shocked where Jean-Baptiste was just kicked by his mom after he was borned and the ambilical cord was cut using an unsterilized knife. Even today the people are classified into parts the 1st class or the nobles the middle class and the slaves. The ending was funny because I remembered the song boombox of Lonely Island they had an orgy and the pope was there too it made me laugh so hard. Its a MUST WATCH MOVIE even there are sexy scences and it was kind off blasphemous it was great I enjoyed watching the movie

LUNETA TRIP

CHOOCHOO!

We had a trip from Luneta to Intramuros to observe the structures there. The first structure that we checked was the Luneta Hotel

I think the style of the Luneta Hotel is Baroque because of the pattern of the windows first is an arch then a window with a pediment on top of it and mixed with Renaissance because it has too many arches and there are gargoyles.

Next stop was Luneta park

There are still people visiting the Luneta park/Rizal Park to unwind, couples that are dating just spending time together.

While taking a walk there we saw a pile of booths there lined up selling toys, balloons and foods. We saw a cute balloon the designs were angry birds, dora the explorer, hello kitty and etc. but the price was too high even if "tumawad kami" the saleslady didn't gave the price we wanted so we moved to the other booth.

The guy said that balloon is P55 I talked to him I said that "we will buy two so can you give it for only P40" he said okay but we only bought one for only P40 hahaha.
While walking we saw a very big clock so we took pictures of it and Paul took a picture for me.

I don't know if I'm going to laugh or what because of this picture I didn't know what came to my mind haha.
Next stop was Intramuros. I took pictures of the structures there while walking

This building didn't look right. I think that the ionic colums of that structure is wrong.

San Agustin Church
I only had the chance to take a picture of the exterior of the church because it was closed. I think the style of the church is Baroque architecture. The color of the church is orange and I think that the priest who wanted the color is kind of childish or immature because the meaning of that color is immature.

this is the entrance of the church.

They used doric and corinthean columns.

The LAST STOP was Manila Cathedral

that was the best place of the trip we've been to for me and i am sure that Manila Cathedral style is Gothic architecture it has a very thick wall but it has a mix of Rococo because there is a garden beside the church

They used rib vault and there are chandeliers that made the church elegant inside.

I couldn't get a picture of the rose window because it was too dark and it would be disrespectful if I put a flash while people are praying solemnly.

San Sebastian Church and Gothic Architecture

This hot afternoon(October 15, 2011) me and paul went to San sebastian Church. I was amazed. The church was very beautiful. The interior of the church is steel not all but most of it. I looked at the ceiling the vault used there was a fan vault the boss was a flower ornament I don't know if the ornament was a rose or some kind of a flower. The glass windows were magnificent I was moved because it was my first time to see a rose window and a very big stained glass.

`

When we entered the church there is a red carpet and there are people wearing barongs, gowns etc at the parking lot.But we still entered the church and took pictures without permission hahaha.

When we were looking around the church I saw a "lapida" I looked closely there was a line of "lapidas" there I think that was the tomb of the priests served the church.

Gothic Architecture

Before the topic was opened sir asked us what is the difference of a Monastery and an Abbey. An abbey is constructed in cities and headed by an abbot and a monastery is constructed far in cities mostly in mountains headed by a monk.

West Minister Abbey(London)

Most famous abbey This is where royalties held their wedding

Monastery

This great structures of Gothic architecture was called “Ecclesiatical Structures”.
The "Gothic" was named by Giorgio Visari. This "Gothic" doesn't mean emo, darkness, hatred, people wearing thick eyeliners, punk and etc. before the meaning of the word Gothic was lively, happy, beautiful, colorful.
The Gothic is classified in two periods Rayonnant and Flamboyant. Rayonnant is somehow similar to Romanesque architecture but when Flamboyant boomed and reached its peak they got a new architectural terms and designs.

`

Gothic imitated the arches of the Romanesque but they raised it and failed. They used third law of Newton - In every action, there’s an opposite but equal reaction.
So a new arch was borned called the Lancet arch.

Lancet Arch

There are three ornaments introduced during this era.

`
Trefoil

N/A
Crochet

Gargoyle

Thus this ends my topic I learned a lot and enjoyed going to a great structure. It was my first time to see a great church like San Sebastian Church.

Romanesque

Things I learned about the architecture of Romanesque

the meaning of the Romanesque "Roman like"

This period was classified into two

1)Lombard
2)Romanesque

To identify if it is Romanesque Architecture
-The structure would have plenty of arches
-thick walls
-they didn't use the classical order(columns)
-tall towers in the churches

Romanesque used bas relief just like the Mesopotamians.

The types of vaults used by the Romanesque
-Barrel vault
-Groin vault

They build columns by first the columns are hollow they make it stand they put the mixture of water, limestone and gravel. Just like how carpentersdo with hollow blocks.

The parts of the arches
-Springer
-voussoirs
-keystone

The classification of Basilica and Cathedral
If the structure has a "cathedra" then it is called Cathedral
If it doesn't then that is a Basilica

Parts of a Basilica
-Narthex(entrance)
-vestibule(foyer)
-nave & apse

The towns are fortified because the place is the hot spot for conquest. They built castles for the houses of the King & Queens.

pagsubok

Ganito lang talaga ang laro ng buhay
Kailangan lang natin masanay
Di patas at masyadong mahirap
Kailan kaya ako makakapunta sa alapaap?

.

Di ko lam kung bakit
bat ganito kasakit
lagi nalang ganito
...matatapos pa ba to?

Thursday, September 9, 2010

ayaw mo naman sabihin dahil ba to'y masakit?
ayoko lang magpakatanga sa wala
gusto ko lang malaman kung ako'y may pag-asa

tula uli :D

ako ay pinana ni cupido
takte ako'y naging stupido
ako'y nahulog masyado sayo
pero hindi ko pinagsisihan ito

...nagpakatanga sa pag ibig
parang nalunod ako sa tubig
tanggap kong di mo ko kayang ibigin
hindi mawawala ang aking pagtingin

Panambitan ikaw ay lumigaya
kahit sa piling ng iba
pero ako ay mas sasaya
kapag tayo ang magkasama
